Casselberry Real Estate

History of Casselberry

Inhabited by Native American groups as early as 800 CE, next came European settlers in the 1800s, Once the Homestead Act was passed in 1862, settlers made their homes near the Triplet Lakes Chain of Lakes and Lake Concord. The area’s first subdivision was platted in 1889. In 1925, what became one of the world’s largest ferneries precipitated the area’s first housing development called Fern Park Estates.
Named for Hibbard Casselberry of Winnetka, Illinois, The Town of Casselberry incorporated as a tax-free town on October 9, 1940. During World War II, manufacturing of hospital tent liners, bomb parachutes and bandoliers temporarily displaced the fern industry until the war ended. The City of Casselberry was incorporated July 25, 1965. Casselberry remained tax-free until 1976.
