History of Baldwin Park

Originally established in 1940 as Orlando Army Air Base, the land on which Baldwin Park is built has a rich military history including Air Force and Naval Commands until the latter were disestablished and the base closed in 1994. Through the years, its airfield served intermittently as Orlando Municipal Airport. In 1999, the property was sold by the Navy to the City of Orlando, who then sold it to a private development company. That company redeveloped the Baldwin Park real estate it into a sustainable, traditional neighborhood later annexed into the city of Orlando.

Area residents were a key part of the Urban Design Vision Plan phase of the large-scale development planning for the Baldwin Park property, committed to maintaining consistent architectural design without becoming monotonous. Available unattached and attached, Baldwin Park real estate offers homes and condos, one to five or more bedrooms, with the majority having three, four or five.

City Amenities

A $40 million dollar demolition and clean up effort, which included recycling and re-purposing much of the concrete to be used in the new development instead of trekking it to a landfill, opened the way for city amenities that now include seven distinct neighborhoods, a business district, exciting shopping and restaurants, an elementary school, several parks and ample open space.

From chain restaurants to unique and ethnic local fine dining favorites, ample restaurants, shopping, banks and a Publix are the heart of Baldwin Park Village Center’s vibrant, lakefront hub. One of these is The Osprey Tavern on New Broad Street. Orlando Magazine recently published outstanding reviews of the “tantalizing” cuisine with an ever-changing menu, subject to whim as Chef Joseph Cournoyer-Burnett sees fit.

Fitness, Yoga, music, and swimming lessons are available at the community centers. There are clubs and service organizations like Rotary International. Join existing groups like the Swim Team, Cruise and Travel Club, Basketball, Kids Club, The Page Turners, or start your own club.
Three miles north of downtown Orlando’s museums, galleries, theaters and libraries.
It’s this array of amenities that has caused Baldwin Park real estate to be highly sought after.
